Sign the new petition to get LDC / Santon to work with us:
A big thank you to everyone who came to the debate chaired by David Dimbleby ‘How do we develop Lewes: Building the homes we need while keeping the town we love’ on Tuesday evening, 15th September 2015.
We had a packed house of well over 400 people. Despite the LDC leadership’s failure to attend, the panel and audience addressed a host of issues including what affordable housing in Lewes really means; how we should develop to protect and create jobs as well as homes; and what needs to change in the consultation process to deliver development that genuinely reflects the wishes and needs of local people. Panellists also raised questions for the LDC administration to answer, which we will put to LDC shortly. An edited film of the debate will be available soon.
So, what do we do now?
We hope that – like us – you’re fired up to take these issues a lot further. Here are TWO actions you can take.
1. Sign the new petition to get LDC / Santon to work with us
Green Party LDC Councillor Joanna Carter has set up a petition urging Lewes District Council to rethink development plans for the Phoenix/North Street and calling on it and Santon to work with Lewes Phoenix Rising.
This new petition requires 1,500 signatures to trigger a debate at the district council. IMPORTANT: Even if you are already a Lewes Phoenix Rising signatory, please take a few minutes to sign this new petition and share as widely as you can so we can get to 1,500 supporters.
2. Help fund the next stage of our plans
The Lewes Phoenix Rising planning and architectural teams are working hard on our alternative proposals for the North Street site in line with feedback we received from the South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) design review panel this summer. We will be exhibiting our latest plans for public consultation at the end of October.
When the SDNPA planning committee convenes later this autumn to discuss the Santon/LDC planning application, we aim to have a compelling and wholly viable alternative plan for them to consider that is far better aligned with the duty of the National Park to foster the economic and social well-being of the community.
So we can continue to fund this work within very tight deadlines, we need your support. Please donate what you can at https://localgiving.com/charity/lewesphoenixrising
As part of LocalGiving, all donations can now receive Gift Aid, which will further boost what you give. If you are interested in making a substantial donation, our architectural and planning team are happy to discuss our latest plans with you in detail.
If you donate between 13th October and 18th November 2015, LocalGiving will double your donation and add Gift Aid.
