Successful Petition presented to Lewes District Council today
Having reached over 2,560 signatures, our petition asking Lewes District Council to work with us:
https://www.change.org/p/lewes-district-council-lewes-district-council-should-rethink-plans-for-the-phoenix-north-street-estate was formally presented to the council this afternoon.
Green Party LDC Councillor Jo Carter and LPR Director Chelsea Renton were given five minutes to present their case to council. A webcast of their presentation to the council meeting can be viewed here. Chelsea and Jo’s full speeches are attached here.
We expect to get a debate in November (date TBC), which will be open to the public. A big thank you to everyone who signed and shared the petition, showing LDC the strength of local feeling for retaining the Phoenix Ironworks and creating a development that truly benefits our town.

Watch the Dimbleby Development Debate
On 15 September, we hosted a panel debate at the Lewes Town Hall titled ‘How do we develop Lewes? Building the homes we need while keeping the town we love’.
Chaired by David Dimbleby, a packed house of more than 500 discussed issues from how to stop Lewes just being a commuter town, the definition of affordable housing to why we don’t have representation on the SDNPA planning committee. You can now watch the whole debate on our YouTube page:
